Gender/ Women in Sports 22/09/2009 10:00:00 Important events in the history of Women in sport Contact sports were out of traditional  Women were limited to sports and occupation consequences o feminie who defy were questioned o half the population disapproved of participation o women were put into their proper role o women were denied access to scholarships o court cases of 1960s brought up discrimination of women and sport o 1972 when discrimination against gender was eliminated o Rudolf became the first women to win 3 gold medals in the Olympics  (track) o Billie Jean King- great tennis players o 1975 janco climbed mt everest  o 1977 luis harris was drafted in the NBA o Anita de Franz- from Los Angeles (black) won bronze medal for rowing o 1984 Joan Bennot- 2 hours and 22 mins marathon o 1991 judith sweet becomes first female president of NCAA (first  women to take a large role) UCSD division 3  o 1992 Lynn Saint Jane- innapolis 500
