L303.R1 2-1 Drexel University Electrical and Computer Engr. Dept. Electrical Engineering Laboratory III, ECE 303 K. Scoles and E. L. Gerber PSpice Computer Simulation of Electronic Circuits Purpose: We will use examples from the “Electronic Devices” Experiment # 1 to gain additional experience with Allegro's Capture, PSpice, and Probe tools, especially in generating sweeps. We will perform DC simulation with varying DC source voltage and transient analysis of voltage in a circuit driven by an AC source. You will improve your basic familiarity with the capture and simulation tools. An OrCAD manual can be found in HELP menu in the OrCAD Capture program. A student version of Spice is available at www.orcad.com/ This experiment involves simulating the circuits you designed and tested in Experiment 1. You should do simulations for circuits #1- AC to DC Conversion, 3 - Constant Output Voltage, 4 - Constant Current Source, and 5 - Voltage Follower. Prelab: The 1N4006 diode is manufactured by Diodes Incorporated and Philips Semiconductor and International Rectifier, among others. Use the Web to locate a datasheet for the diode. Bring the datasheet to lab with you. The 1N4740A Zener diode is manufactured by Diodes Incorporated and Philips Semiconductor, among others. Use the Web to locate a datasheet for this diode. Bring the datasheet to lab with you. General Procedure: PSpice is capable of simulating almost any analog or digital circuit. One must first define that circuit in a schematic diagram with all of the appropriate element values specified, including sources. Then, an analysis method must be selected, such as AC or DC. Most often, but not always, the results are obtained graphically in the form of a plot. Various electronic and circuit elements are available in the several PSpice libraries in the program.

L303.R1 2-2 Using the Part and Parts Library in Capture The basic circuit elements in the system are resistors, capacitors, and sources. They are found in the analog and source libraries in OrCAD. A list of some basic elements is shown in Table 1 with letter designator listed for each. PSpice Basic Parts In addition to the resistors and capacitors, which were used in the previous Lab course, this experiment requires the use of diodes, bipolar transistors and FET transistors. Generic BJTs are available in the library called “BIPOLAR”. Unless otherwise specified, PSpice transistor default parameters (beta, etc.) are used to simulate these parts. Some transistors have as many as 30 parameters in their model. Sources of all types are in the “SOURCE” Library. The JFET and the various diodes can
