Platinum is used in catalytic convertors in automobiles, in fuel cells, and industrial reactors for increasing the octane of gasoline. Platinum metal is produced by the decomposition of (NH 4 ) 2 PtCl 6 to Pt, NH 4 Cl, N 2 , and HCl. Write the balanced chemical equation for this reaction. 2. If 1 gmol of N 2 and 3 gmol of H 2 are consumed to make 2 gmol of NH 3 , how many pounds of N 2 and H 2 are required to make 1 billion lb of ammonia? 3. Nitric acid (HNO 3 ) is an important commodity chemical. It is made by oxidation of ammo- nia. Three reactions occur. In reaction 1, ammonia reacts with oxygen (O 2 ) to form nitric oxide (NO) and water. In reaction 2, NO is reacted further with O 2 to nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ). In reaction 3, NO 2 is bubbled through water to produce HNO 3 and NO. Write out three stoichiometrically balanced chemical equations, one for each of the reactions
