Sarah Benton Cultural Diversity African Americans Part 1 I agree completely with Jacoby’s points on Affirmative Action and the state of diversity training in our country. Basically, Jacoby pointed out that Affirmative Action’s costs are greater than its benefits. The issues surrounding this plan outweigh the positives, and this reinforces the plan in many peoples’ minds as ineffective and a waste. One of Jacoby’s points that really stuck with me was that there is almost double the rate of AA student drop outs as regular student drop outs from college. This statistic is interesting, because while AA allows the students to get into school, or to obtain a job, they might not be qualified for that position, leading to failure of the person, and ultimately the program. Affirmative Action is an extremely expensive program that, according to Jacoby, truly only serves to cement racial “poisons” in the publics’ minds. “Attitudes are the most important thing” in relation to race according to her, and I agree
