While there were amazing steps being taken to ensure basic rights were allowed for some, others were not being afforded the same rights. On the balance, I believe that, while not everyone was being afforded these basic human rights, such as slaves, that the country was heading in the right direction concerning equality, and within 60 years after the Antebellum period, the same groups that had been discriminated against were experiencing great leaps in equality and rights. During the Antebellum, the North was experiencing a time of -isms.
