“Should New Jersey cut state government services or raise taxes to deal with its current budget shortfall?” PARAGRAPH 1 Intro In New Jersey, there is a discrepancy between what is spent and what is grossed each year. This deficit could either be solved by raising the tax rates or cutting the collective and selective services that the state and local governments provide to their citizens. As a person who is a part of an organization that operates under a government entity, reaping the benefits from state and local services, I would recommend that the state raise various taxes, such as the price of lottery tickets (and lower the reward)/raise traffic fines, the sin tax, and all together eradicate the Homestead Credit Act. The issue with such, however, is that many people who would not be benefiting from the more selective benefits would not be reaping from the higher taxes they were paying. I therefore recommend that the state cuts some of the selective and collective services that they are providing in order to
