Examples: A company develops a new system to increase sales force productivity and CRM. A government group develops a system to track child immunization. What is a Project? 4/8/10 A project has a unique purpose :well defined objective. A project is temporary :A definite beginning and definite end. A project is developed using progressive elaboration :should be developed in increments. Project attributes 4/8/10 A project requires resources often from various areas: resources include hardware,software or other assets.resources are limited and they must be used effectively. A project should have a primary customer or sponsor: project sponsor usually provides the direction and funding for the project. 4/8/10 A project involves uncertainity: every project is unique, so it becomes difficult to define objectives,time to complete or cost. There can be external factors also. 4/8/10 SCOPE: What work will be done as a part of project ?What unique product, service or result does the customer or sponsor expect from the project? How will scope be verified? TIME: How long should it take to complete the project? What is the project s schedule? How will the team track actual schedule performance?
