Gloria Descoteaux/25 February 23, 2010 Texting while driving General Purpose: To educate my classmates about the significantly, overlooked dangers of text messaging and what to do about it. Specific Purpose: After my speech the audience will know the impact and serious dangers of texting while driving. Thesis: Texting while driving has very serious consequences and is currently considered more dangerous than driving drunk. It’s not where your hands are, it’s where your head is I. Introduction A. How many of you would close your eyes for five seconds while driving your car? B. I myself and people I know have gotten into a car accident due to text messaging and I believe it is important for the audience to know the statistics behind this overlooked activity. C. Texting while driving has become our new obsession and if we ourselves haven’t texted while driving, we all know of someone who has. D. Texting while driving has very serious consequences and is currently considered more dangerous than driving drunk according to the Oprah Winfrey Show and others.
