Reading assignment . • Please read chapter 1 of the textbook, especially the parts concerned with digital signals and systems. • Revise chapter three on the Fourier series representation of continuous periodic signals. I will assume that you are competent with this material from ECE130A. Note . You should learn how to record, playback and visualize digital sound recordings on your favorite computer platform. If you use a Linux machine I would suggest using Audacity for recording, playback and visualization, though I also often use Sonic Visualiser to view the signals. Both Matlab and Octave can be used to process and generate these signals. If you use C you can use the library libsndfile to read and write audio files. Windows Note . On a Windows machine, Audacity is still available for recording, playback and visualization. It can be downloaded and used for free. Alternatively, you may stick with the standard Windows Sound Recorder application. The version of sound recorder in Windows Vista may not let you save the recorded audio as a ‘wav’ file.
