PROBLEMS 1. The structure is a BASE ordinarily found in nucleic acid. The next 5 questions refer to thus structure. a. The base is a PURINE. b. The name of the base is GUANINE . c. The base would ordinarily be found in both DNA and RNA (circle one). d. Draw a labeled arrow to indicate the specific atom that would be linked via a covalent bond to the sugar, if the base were in a typical nucleotide. e. Draw labeled arrows to indicate where the base would form hydrogen bonds to its complementary nucleotide in a base pair. (Be sure to distinguish these arrows form the one drawn for the previous question.) 2. A.) On the diagram of tube A, indicate the fraction (7/16, 9/12, etc.) of the total DNA that appeared in each of the DNA bands in tube A. HINT: The fractions must add to 1. B.) Assume that the E. coli were allowed to replicate THREE TIMES (rather than twice) in 14 N before analysis. On the diagram of tube B, draw DNA band/s at the expected positions and indicate the fraction of the total DNA would appear in each band. C.) Now assume DNA replication is CONSERVATIVE rather than SEMICONSERVATIVE. Draw the DNA band/s expected after two (2) replications in 14 N and indicate the fraction of the total DNA would appear in each band.
