Required Materials. th Ed. , Petrucci, Harwood, Herring, Madura Chemistry 2A Laboratory Manual , Department of Chemistry, UCD, (UCD Bookstore) Approved safety goggles (you will receive a pair in lab) Laboratory Notebook with carbon pages Student Access Kit (UCD Bookstore) Scientific Calculator Optional Materials. Student Solutions Manual for the text by Gelmini, Hilts, and Wismer. Student Study Guide. Prerequisite. You must have a minimum score of 21 on the Chemistry Diagnostic Test and 25 on the Precalculus Qualifying Exam. You will be administratively dropped from Chemistry 2A if you do not have minimum score on record. Additional information at: http://www.lsc.ucdavis.edu/diagnostic_exams.html Fees. Chemistry 2A has a Course Material Fee of $40. Student Accounting will bill you for this sometime after the drop-date. Students who are “Pell Grant” eligible and receiving financial aid are automatically exempt from this fee. Repeating students who are not retaking the lab are also exempt. Course Content. The lectures will cover Chapters 1-6 and 8-11 of the text by Petrucci, Harwood, Herring, and Madura. You are responsible for all of this material, including any parts that may not be formally presented in lecture, unless explicitly directed otherwise in lecture. Readings and problems from the text will be assigned. While the problems will not be colleted or graded, it is critical that you do these (and as many additional problems as possible) in order to succeed in the class. A tentative schedule of lecture assignments is given on Page 3 of this syllabus.
