The Patriot Directed by Roland Emmerich 1. The film begins in South Carolina during the pre-Revolutionary war. It is 1776 and there are many conflicts/issues going on between the colonies and England. First of all, the colonies are split: some hate King George and others are loyal to him. Also, many want to go to war with England while others want to keep the peace and resolve problems in a better way. During this time, the Battle of Bunker Hill and the Boston Tea Party are taking place and causing much debate among the colonists. 2. The Patriot did an excellent job of taking facts about the Revolutionary War time period and bringing them to life. An example from the movie that expands my knowledge from class is when Benjamin Martin and his two young boys run off into the woods to chase after (and later kill) a group of red-coats. During this scene, Martin and his boys all use tactics of guerilla warfare to take down their enemy. In class we talked about how the idea of guerilla warfare was present during this time period but slowly faded away to a more structured fighting style.
