August 10 th 1970: “ELVIS SUMMER FESTIVAL” elvis opens at international hotel -3 rd year in vegas -open night single show, w/reception -2 shows a night -MGM catch on camera -wears jumpsuits -RCA films it for album -filmed live for documentary : Elvis – “That s the Way It Is” -on stage, behind the scenes International hotel room records: “Something” - George Harrison song from Beatle days #3 in 1969, masterpeice - Elvis introduces song - wah-wah elec. guitar is „70s sound - tambourine, vocal pads - more Millie K.! - full orchestra + Elvis s rhythm section -imperials quartet & sweet inspirations -glen harden plays piano -horns, strings - Millie Kurkum singing above verses 2, 3, and 4 (w/ distinct high range oblagato sound) -elvis peaks at end -makes it his own style “You ve Lost That Lovin Feelin ” -Barry Mann & Cynthia Wild song writers -from NY city team _they wrote this song - Righteous Brothers hit - bass intro, simple ac. guitar - strong Elvis vocal - thick texture at chorus - dynamic arrangement - blatty bass trombone! - free Elvis and backup vocals at end - hard for elvis to take on b/c end features 2 voices interacting -imperials quartet, sweet inspiration -glen harden -audience applause as recognize song -blues piano -guitar fills -wonderful cover, faithful to original
