This specificity means that a bacteriaphage can only infect certain bacteria bearing the specific receptor, thus determining the bacteriophage’s host range STAPHLOCOCCUS General Characteristics *Nonmotile *Gram (+) *Cocci (sphere)-Single ,Pair, Clusters *Catalase (+) **Facultative Aerobes Do not run oxidase test? Oxidase activity can be determined by using Microdase disks . *These test is for Gram(+), catalase-positive cocci only! These disks are prepared for the differention between micrococci and staphylococci and are impregnanted with tetramethyl-p-phenylene diamine in dimethyl sufide oxide. To test for the presense of oxdiase enzyme, one large colony can be picked up and rubbed across the disk and exampled for no more than 30s. Positive results indicated by BLUE-PURLPLE color.
