Institutions Push on with Alternatives Article published on November 10, 2008 Despite getting burned by alternative assets in the past year, pension funds and other institutional investors are still eager to cut exposure to equities to free up cash to invest in hedge funds, private equity, commodities, and property. That's according to the Financial Times . A new asset management survey from Boston Consulting Group found that 18% of respondents expected to cut equity exposure in the next 12 months. The firm estimated alternative products will account for 23% of global assets under management by 2012-- and 61% of fees, because these investments carry higher charges. The survey was conducted in mid-October and covered European and North American pension funds. In addition, 77% said current market conditions would cause them to review their fund managers.
