As a student in the undergraduate Biomedical Science program, I have been trained for  biomedical research since my first day of classes at Ohio State. While I have long had the  desire to pursue dentistry, I had little knowledge about research in the craniofacial sciences.  Thus, I have been satisfying my research interests in fields beyond dentistry. During my  freshman year I volunteered in the OSU Perinatal research laboratory. There I learned basic cell  culture, aseptic technique, various assays, and western blotting. As my freshman year came to  a close I knew I wanted to change laboratories in order to experience as diverse research areas  as possible. Knowing that I would be required to take an intensive laboratory skills class in the  spring of my sophomore year, I decided to pursue a clinical laboratory for breadth.
