After reading several publications by Dr. Costas Karageorghis, I intend to use various genres of music to see each of their results, but, more importantly, specific tracks as picked by the individual participants of my study. With regard to the final work I reviewed titled The Effects of Music on Athletic Performance , I intend to try and duplicate their study in my experiment to see what, if any, effect priming participants can have on their overall performance. Hypotheses Hypothesis I. Participants of Rounds i and ii, regardless of group, will have higher average shooting percentages than participants of Round iii. Hypothesis II.Participants of Round i, regardless of group, will have higher average shooting percentages than participants of Round ii. Hypothesis III. Participants of Group I will have higher average shooting percentages than participants of Group III who will have higher shooting percentages of Group II. (ie. % Group I > % Group III > % Group 2) Subjects The experiment will consist of at least 30 individuals (10 in each group) who shall volunteer at their own will. Individuals who are most qualified will be selected from the applicant pool. By qualified, I mean a set of basketball players, who, on average make the same amount of shots from a specified spot on a consistent basis. Likewise, all applicants must have a minimum of two years of previous experience on a recreational or official basketball team. These stipulations assure a solid control average shooting percentage without a large deviation. There are no foreseeable risks for the individuals in this experiment. However, to reward participants for volunteering their time, a $10.00 compensation will be given to all participants upon completion of the experiment regardless of their performance in the study. Proper forms have been filled out and submitted to the American Psychological Association (APA) and have been approved by their ethics committee on the testing of human subjects. Participants of my study will be divided into the following groups:
