Several works have already been published analyzing the effects of music on sport and exercise. I believe that through research I will be able to show significant proof that music can in fact increase work output and performance in athletes by allowing them to relieve stress and get “pumped up.” One of the leading researchers in the field of music and its effect on sports and exercise is Dr. Costas Karageorghis. Both his work, Psychophysical effects of music in sport and exercise: an update on theory, research and application , and his interview with SpikesMag expressed his view that music has potential benefits, both psychophysically and ergogenically, when compiled precisely. Different individuals respond to music in different ways, and for this reason, Dr. Karageorghis stressed that when utilizing music as a tool to increase an athlete’s performance, it is imperative that “athletes or exercise participants are involved in the selection of tracks, as this is likely to increase the potency of music-related effects.” [1] His research paper provided
