Experiment 8 PHY134 - Classical Physics II Laboratory LR(C) Circuits In this experiment, we observe the transient behavior of series LR (inductance-resistance) and LRC (inductance- resistance-capacitance) circuits. Equipment Oscilloscope, Function generator, Inductor coil, decade resistance box, decade capacitance box. Method In Part I, a square wave is applied to a series LR circuit. The period of the square wave is adjusted to be long compared with the time constant of the LR circuit and the exponential approach to steady state is observed. In Part II, a square wave is applied to a series LRC circuit and the damped oscillations are observed. Procedure I. L-R Circuit Connect the circuit as shown in Figure 1: Set the function generator to produce 1000 Hz square waves of maximum amplitude.
