REVIEW OLD EXAMS AND PAST TESTS A LOT!!!!!! Chapter 3: Chemistry Balancing Chemical Equations Write correct formulas for reactants on left side and products on right side o C 2 H 6 +O 2 CO 2 + H 2 O o Change numbers in front of formulas to make number of atoms of each element the same on both sides of the equation…do not change subscripts o Start by balancing those elements that appear in only one reactant and one product o Balanced= 2C 2 H 6 + 7O 2 4CO 2 + 6H 2 O o Change coefficients not subscripts Limiting reactants o 4 questions you must be able to answer What id the limiting reactant? What is the theoretical yield? What is the % yield? (must be given an amount) What is the mass number of moles of excess? o Limiting reactant: know grams you have of each reactant and g/mol of each Which runs out first? Mole ratio, g m m g Go Mickey mouse go o % yield: actual yield must be given in problem (Actual /theoretical ) * 100% = % yield
