Nick Fortune September 20, 2006 American Gov’t and Politics Scandals among Lobbyists in Washington Today in Washington, there is no sense of ethics remaining. With lobbyist Jack Abramoff on his way prison, former California Republican representative Randy Cunningham is already there. Along with them is former House majority leader Tom DeLay who was indicted and resigned from the position. There have also been numerous laws to provide tax breaks and money for special interest groups. You would think something like this would entice Congress to do something to try and clean up the Capitol but from 2000 to 2005 the number of lobbyists in Washington doubled. The K Street Project was founded by Grover Norquist in 1989 after he read an ad for an American corporation looking to hire a Democrat lobbyist although most Democrats opposed the goals of this company. The reason for this was at the time, Democrats had dominated the House of Representatives for 35 years. With the formation of the K Street Project, Norquist encouraged trade associations and Fortune 500 firms to
