Dear WCU English Department Faculty, During the fall semester of 2005, I took English Composition I. I have noticed dramatic changes in every aspect of my writing style. My writing process and the way I get my papers written has changed with the help of my professor, Ms. Askins. Before taking this class, when writing a paper I would just sit down at my computer and start typing as thoughts came into my head instead of planning out what I was going to write before I started. Now I have learned the importance of brainstorming prior to starting a paper. To begin a paper, I sit down and think about all of the experiences I have had dealing with the issue the prompt covers. Then as I get ideas in my head, I write them down and then pick the story or idea I have the most detail about. After sorting all of my ideas into separate paragraphs I begin my paper and am able to write it much easier. Since the paragraphs are pretty much already organized, all I have to do is write the introduction and conclusion and then re-write the body paragraphs between the two. Doing this makes the paper easier and faster to write.
