Axia College Material Appendix D TV Character Evaluation Part I Write a summary of 350-700 words identifying the contributions of Freud, Jung, and Rogers. Sigmund Freud is one of the most known and influential psychologist and theorist. Although Freud focused much of his attention on consciousness, he also stressed unconsciousness as well when it comes to thoughts, feelings, and ideas that we are not aware of. Freud believed that a person’s personality is structured by three different things-the id, the ego, and the superego. Freud believed that the id operated on the pleasure principle that allows a person to gain pleasure before pain can arise. Freud believed that the ego operated consciously, unconsciously, and preconsciously. The ego acts on the reality principle. The ego allows a person to make a conscious decision regarding desires in a safe manner. The last part of Freud’s theory of personality is the superego. The superego is the part of an individual’s personality that gives a person morality. Without the superego a person would be selfish and unsociable. Freud’s theories were mostly based on a person’s sexuality. Carl Jung believed in analytic psychology. Many people who were interested in the views of Freud were also interested in the views of Carl Jung. Unlike Freud, Carl Jung believed that a person’s behavior patterns are inherited. These thought patterns are called archetypes. Jung also presented persona, anima, and animus as being factors of male and female personality. Persona
