Nick Hunter Acceleration of a Car Traveling Down a Ramp Lab Objective: To determine the acceleration of a car traveling from rest down an inclined plane. Equipment: Meter stick Photo-gate Ramp-car system Procedure: Release car from atop of an inclined plane. Gather time from a photo-gate at 10 cm from the release point. Repeat two more times. Move the photo-gate in 10 cm intervals down the inclined plane and repeat previous steps. Once all times are gathered, calculate the average time for each photo-gate position. Square all the average times then graph (y- Δx, x- t ²) Using the formula Δx=½at ² ( a= 2Δx/ t ²) , find the acceleration. Find the slope of the given graph then multiply it by 2 to get the average acceleration.
