Experiment 51 11/10/06 Experiment 51: Resonance of Air Column in Tube (Resonance Tube) Risk Assessment The Experiment had some very low risks. These are outlined below. 1. Electrical – As the a.f. oscillator operates on mains electricity 2. Acoustic – As there is a speaker with an adjustable volume, which needs to be kept low as to prevent any damage to the ears. Experiment Aim The aim of the experiment is firstly to measure the resonance of different frequencies in the air column, so that it is possible to find the end correction of the resonance tube. Secondly, is to measure two resonant lengths at the same frequency so that the velocity of sound in air can be calculated. Below is a list of all the apparatus which was used in the experiment Resonance Tube Audio-frequency oscillator Loudspeaker Meter Rule Thermometer Below is a diagram of how the apparatus was set up in order to collect my results. 1of 6
