The solid precipitate must be neutral, so to balance the +2’s with- 3’s, you need 3 nickel ions and 2 phosphate ions. That tells you the subscripts in the precipitate as well as the coefficients on the reagents. In a balanced molecular equation the counter ions, Cl- and H + , combine to form 6 HCl molecules.
