The main purpose of this experiment is to obtain quantitative values of acid ionization constants by measuring the pH. Another objective of the experiment is to prepare buffer solutions and observe their resistance to change in pH. Materials/Equipment pH meter Test tubes 50-mL beaker 50-mL graduated cylinder 125-mL Erlenmeyer flask Kimwipe 50.0 mL burette 150-mL beaker 100-mL beaker Chemicals Used De-ionized water (DI ) 0.1 M NaOH 0.10M CHCOOH (acetic acid) 1.0M CHCOOH

1.0M NaCHCOO (sodium acetate) Procedure For Part 1 of the experiment, a 50.0 mL burette was cleaned with soap and water, and rinsed with de-ionized water. The burette was then rinsed with two 5 mL portions of a 0.1M NaOH solution. After the burette was clean, it was filled with 0.1M NaOH until the initial volume in the burette was at the zero mark. Afterwards, 25.0 mL of 0.10M acetic acid was obtained and transferred into a 150-mL beaker. The pH of the solution was measured and recorded. 1.0 mL portions of NaOH solution were titrated into the 150-mL beaker, mixed, with the pH recorded for every mL added.
