Brett Larose ENC 1101 Section #0015 Nathan Holic 9/14/2009 Discovery Assignment III As I treaded through the hallway of cells, each and every footstep that pierced the dingy cement attracted a different dog to me. Left foot, a brown Rottweiler gazed into my eyes with the only eye he had, silent. Right foot, a German shepherd stood on her hind legs and pressed her rigid paws against the fence, her bark reverberating through the hall. The cells were filthy. Dirt lined the edges, and cockroaches crawled across the chilly cement, devouring any leftover dog kernel crumbs. The hallway reeked of hopelessness and dog shit. As I followed the worker to the end of the hall, I glimpsed back to the dogs. They walked back into the corner of their cell, slowly laid down and propped their ears
