Brett Larose ENC 1101 Section 15 Nathan Holic 11/23/2009 Discovery Assignment IX Driving down University Blvd., it is very clear to see that UCF students have a vast array of food options to choose from. Nine times out of ten, the restaurants are banking on the fact that college students love carbohydrates, sugar, and salt. For example, the food court in UCF’s Student Union is filled with artery clogging saturated fat, and the only semi-healthy restaurant, Subway, can still be as devastating as the others depending on the food item. Colleges are basing their menus on cost-efficiency, and unfortunately, grease and fat are much cheaper to provide than fruits and vegetables. Thesis: The University of Central Florida needs to prioritize the nutrition of its student body and offer healthy alternatives, rather than the pseudo-healthy restaurants plaguing the campus. Solutions: There are many solutions that the University can offer its students that it is currently not doing. Although the University prides in providing students with “healthy”
