Dr. Thurber Concert Report 10 June 10, 2008 “A Night Over Broadway” On Saturday evening, April 12, 2008, I attended “A Night Over Broadway,” a musical production with scenes from Jekyll and Hyde , My Fair Lady , WICKED , and Songs for a New World . The performances involved graduates, as well as current students, from La Sierra University. It was directed by Xander Legaspi, a Junior pursuing a double major in Psychobiology, Bio-Health Sciences, and a minor in Music, under the supervision of Elvin Rodriguez. Other significant performers included Jed de la Paz, Darlene Nick, and Nicholas Coffey. The orchestra included piano, violin I, violin II, viola, cello, electric bass, harp, flute, clarinet, horn, trombone, percussion instruments, in addition to several choral members. I found this musical production to be incredibly entertaining and very well done. I was impressed, to say the least, with the overall performances. I especially enjoyed the scenes from

Unformatted text preview: Jekyll and Hyde , because it is one of my all-time favorite stories. The change in lighting from red to white helped differentiate between when the character was playing the role of Hyde or Jekyll, respectively. I felt that Xander Legaspi did an excellent performance in the song, Confrontation, having to play the parts of Jekyll and Hyde simultaneously. I also enjoyed the songs from My Fair Lady , especially I Could Have Danced All Night performed by Lauren Wareham. I had never seen any scenes from WICKED before, and I found them to be the most entertaining of all. I had only recently heard of the untold story of Oz, and I thought the actors/singers put on a wonderful display. I was not as impressed with Songs for a New World , however, I still felt that it was well performed....
