1. Describe what you would see as the key personal and interpersonal issues Daniel experienced in relation to his mother and her eating disorder. In my opinion, I believe that Daniel produced an intensive amount of embarrassment towards his mother. 2. Describe any experiences related to diagnoses and/or labeling of the disorder that were illustrated in the book. The experience that stood out to me was how the diseased first emerged. Daniel’s mother wanted to wear a bikini on the beach. At that time she weighed 135 pounds and she wanted to lose 10 pounds. Once she has lost the initial pounds she then though it was ok to lose more thus developing a domino effect. Before she even realized what was going on, she was already 85 pounds and believing that she needed to lose more. Now picture a twenty-five to thirty year old woman weighing 85 pounds because she is starving herself. Every time she looks in the mirror, she sees herself as fat. Picture her husband and children watching their wife and mother literally disintegrating into thin air. This was the life that Daniel dealt with. A life of hurt, confusion, and embarrassment. He was part of a family dealing with an eating disorder. Eating disorders are a major problem with the women of today's society. While anorexia and bulimia are sociological problems plaguing the nation, the phobia of being fat disturbs people to the point where they are in a way, committing suicide. 3.
