MAP 103: Proficiency Algebra Homework #4 DUE: TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2009 1. The sum of two numbers is 75. If one number is three more than five times the second, find the two numbers. 2. The perimeter of a rectangle is 40. If one side is two more than twice the other side, find the lengths of each of the sides. Using this information, find the area of the rectangle. 3. In town A it costs \$8.00 to park for one hour at a parking lot and \$4.50 for each additional hour. At town B it costs \$8.50 to park for one hour at a parking lot and \$3.75 for each additional hour. Find the time t a person could park at both parking lots, respectively, and pay an equal price. 4. Two swimmers are competing. They are both in the 100 meter fly. If one swimmer uses only 10% of their total energy, while the other uses 30% of their energy, how much energy would both swimmers need to use if they desired a 25% energy consumption. 5. A parallelogram is formed by joining the points A = (0 , 0) , B = ( - 2 , 2) , C = (4 , 4) , and D = (5 , 1) .
