Not only has the retailer been on a mission to grow as a company, but with share prices peaking at almost $130 per share in December 2019 from around $70 per share in January 2019 ("Target Corporation (TGT) Stock Historical Prices & Data", 2020), Target’s performance has been astonishing.Big box retail has long been deemed the dying business and with giants like Sears and Toys ‘R’ Us going out of business it is crystal clear that no one is safe. At the core of this dilemma sits e-commerce giant Amazon with its 2-day free shipping offer, as well as consumers who want the best product at rock-bottom prices. With long-time brick and mortar stores calling it quits after decades of being on top of the ‘food chain,’ retail has to be vigilant and innovative with its strategies on getting customers into their stores rather than ordering essential and non-essential items for delivery from the comfort of their own home.Target has done just that by launching exciting new brands, investing in store remodels and updates, as well as reinventing its visual merchandising.
