Taylor Collins Friedel-Crafts Acylation of Anisole - Pre-lab and Observations : Attached - Results : Methoxyacetophenone: Theoretical yield= 1.502g *all the weights and yields come from adding individual results to three other lab partners products to achieve greater results* Weight of crude= 1.36 g Weight of distilled= 1.00 g Percent yield as a group= 66% Personal percent yield= 16% NMR Analysis: There are 4 peaks, two are doublets and the other two are singlets. The doublet peaks represent the H’s on the ring. The singlet peaks represent the H’s of the methyl groups. Peak assignments attached. - Discussion : The problem is that a company named Olfactory Factory ordered 500 kg instead of 500 lbs of anisole and needs to use up the remaining amount in the form of p- methoxyacetophenone. However, they need for the product to mainly be p- methoxyaceteophenone and not any other isomers(meta or ortho). The planned approach is to perform a Friedel-Crafts acylation of anisole to produce the product. The product
