Mainframes and personal computers are very useful to those who utilize them. In my recent studies, I have found some differences between the two. Many people use both, from corporate companies, in the office and at home. Finding out the differences also helped me realize what the advantages and disadvantages in using a pc or mainframe. One of the first obvious differences is between the mainframe and the personal computer is their size. A personal computer is small in size around 18’ square inches and can be purchased around $1000.00 or less. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Personal_computers ) A mainframe computer is very large and expensive. The mainframe takes up a whole room of space. With this information it is obvious that a personal computer is easier to repair and move around. Then there is the mainframe, which usually is repaired by a contract company by appointment and

The personal computer comes with a limited amount of memory; additional memory can be purchased. Mainframe computers play a central role in some of the largest corporations. Having knowledge of both and their reasons for use can be very helpful in choosing which would meet your needs. Mainframe and personal computers have their pros and cons.
