History: Day 1 16:05 Reformation began in 1517 in Roman Catholic Church: before the Reformation  the vast bulk was Roman Catholic. There were a few Jewish and Orthodox. Main Protestant Branches:  Lutheranism: Martin Luther: German Theologian.  Calvanism: John Calvin -Presbyterian -Reformed Anglican -Episcopal (non-British) -Methodist (John Wesley was anti-Calvinist) -Baptist -Congregational Effort in English Church to purify the Church was to make it Calvinist. Christian Churches that are not formally Protestant because they have separate  prophetic tradition. -Mormon (LDS): 2001 Pope said Mormons had to be rebaptized if they want to be  Catholic because their baptisms are not recognized by the RCC. -Christian Science Theological Issues -2 Great Questions in Christianity: What should Christians believe? Who tells  Christians what to believe (Authority)? -Aristotle (Greek philosopher) 384-322 BC
