Extra Credit: Tariffs
The presentation on tariffs was very informative. I already knew the basics of tariffs from previous and current courses that I am taking so I was not expecting to learn so much. The beginning of the presentation began with Dr. Lindemann discussing the reason we use trade barriers. Some reasons include cultural reasons, unemployment, and political reasons. A common theme throughout the presentation was that tariffs can be very harmful to the economy. I learned that in the 80s, New Jersey was suffering due to tariffs because the imports that arrived in New York or Philadelphia were charging the money. Trade barriers were the same as I have learned in my classes including quota, tariff, embargo, and other non-tariff barriers such as red tape. I was not expecting to learn so much more, but then I learned of the types of tariffs. There are flat rate tariffs, ad valorem tariffs, and compound tariffs.
