Chapter 4 Article 2: Discovering Love 1. What researcher conducted the study you are reading about? Harry Harlow, a developmental psychologists, conducted this study. 2. Describe how the Freudians explained how individuals developed a close bond to their mother. Freudians explained this development by stating that this bond arose around the importance of the breasts, and the instinctive oral tendencies during the first year of life. 3. Describe how the behaviorists answered the same question (number 2). Behaviorists explained this bond with the mother’s by stating that all human behavior is associated with our primary needs, such as hunger, thirst, and avoidance of pain; all of which is provided by a mother. 4. What did Harlow notice about monkeys and their relation to the pads that often covered their cages? What did he hypothesize out of these observations?
