Experiment 6 Determination on an Equilibrium constant The purpose of this lab is to study the chemical reaction of Fe 3+ and SCN-to produce iron thiocyanide, Fe(SCN) 2+ in aqueous solution and to measure concentrations of ions in solution using a mass spectrometer. The mass spectrometer is wired to a PC and was used to measure the absorption of light in various samples. This experiment helps show what factors affect the absorbance of light in a given solution. The calculation was completed using the y= mx + b formula were the y = the absorption measured.
