May 1 st , 2007 Article Summary #11 “S.F. warned to cut water use 10%” By: John Ritter April 13 th, 2007 USA TODAY This year has been one of the driest winters on record and has water officials worried about consumption. Water officials are asking Bay Area residents to minimize their water use or they will be faced with mandatory restrictions this summer. Water that is provided to 2.4 million people in San Francisco and three other surrounding counties will have to be reduced by 10% by next month in order to avoid restrictive water use. A spokesman from the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission stated that “It’s premature to call it a crisis, but if we have another year like we had this winter, we’d be in drought conditions. There is not enough rain and snow this year, in fact -27% of normal and the fourth driest winter since 1919 has left the city’s main water supply in Yosemite National Park is only 75% full.
