Philosophy 12A Lecture #7 2/9/10 If Yossarian flies his missions then he is putting himself in danger, and  it is irrational to put oneself in danger (general claim) . If Yossarian is rational he will ask to be grounded, and he will be grounded only if he asks.  But only irrational people are grounded and a request to be grounded is proof of rationality . Consequently, Yossarian will fly his missions whether he is rational or irrational. F: Yossarian flies his missions D: Yossarian puts himself in danger If Yossarian puts himself in danger then he is irrational R: Yossarian is rational G: Yossarian will ask to be grounded Yossarian will be grounded (not flying claim) only if he asks to be grounded Yossarian is grounded only if he’s irrational If Yossarian asks to be grounded then he is rational Yossarian will fly his missions whether Yossarian is rational or irrational
