Mythology Lecture 8 Quiz 2: similar format: one passage to analyze, highlight components, one image: describe it (what is being represented), and come up with interpretation and parallel analysis as with text but with image, and question on context? o Briseus embodies the honor and recognition (time’) of Achilles. o Question today: why is it that Achilles is so angry of death of Patroclus (what does his comrade mean to him), how can we characterize the wrath of Achilles, what kind of closure is being o Names and context: Hecuba, Andromache, Astyanax o Lament: expression of collected grief o Patroklus dies by three agents: Apollo crashes his chariot, another guy hits him with a javelin, and Hektor gives the last blow. o Hektor takes the armor of Patroklus which is actually Achilles. o Achilles learns of the death: Incredibly emotional reaction. o Combination of mourning behavior – this goes beyond normal grief, there is a sense that Achilles is dying, that he feels what Patroklus felt. o Clip Mystic River: nothing to do with Troy, but interesting to think about figure of Achilles. The movie addresses grief, guilt, loss. Character: Jimmy. Jimmy’s friend kills Jimmy’s daughter because he feels that jimmy had something to do with him being abused as a child. His other friend is the detective behind the case. o
