Laughlin, G. Conor English-102 April 8, 2009 Berner, Melanie One article I hope to use for my research paper is one out of Revolver Magazine, titled Blood and Thunder. The article describes how the metal band, Mastodon, wrote their fourth full-length album, Crack The Skye. The article starts out by discussing an incident that occurred with guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds. In 2007, after an after-party for the MTV Music Video Awards, Hinds was assaulted. As he left the party, two people, System of a Down Bassist Shavo Odadjian and singer/songwriter William Hudson, followed him. After an altercation, Hudson punched Hinds in the face, breaking his nose and subsequently putting him into a 3-day coma. After Hinds was released from medical care, he was bedridden for a month. During which time, he obsessively played guitar. Then the article talks about how this event, and other events that the other band mates experienced, helped shape the new album.
