Specifically, it explores (i) the economic principles underlying environmental policies and laws and (ii) the managerial practices that respond to such policies and laws. It also describes some of the environmental technologies that facilitate pollution prevention and pollution abatement (although this is a relatively minor component of the course). Students taking this course will (i) understand the basic economic forces that, if left unchecked, result in excessive environmental degradation; (ii) appreciate the central role economics plays in the design of the environmental policies and laws that represent an increasingly important aspect of firms' regulatory and competitive environment; and (iii) appreciate the complexity of
