SOCL 4471 Exam 1 Terms 1. Stratification - the vertical aspect of social life; it is any uneven distribution of the material conditions of existence, such as food and shelter, and the means by which these are produced, such as land, raw materials, tools, domestic animals, and slaves. - It includes an uneven distribution of a currency of exchange. In a broad sense, stratification is inequality of wealth. It has several variable aspects: one is the magnitude of a difference in wealth, or vertical distance; another is the degree which wealth is distributed into layers rather than continuum (vertical segmentation). - Stratification varies across time and space. The more stratification a society has the more law it has. 2. Instrumental Marxism - traces the development of law to the control exercised by the ruling class; law is simply class rule; the ruling class controls the formation of law; law is an instrument used for maximizing rules class interests in society and controlling the working classes.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
