Shane Wicken 084379 HU260 Assignment 3.1 P a g e | 1 I have taken numerous classes from 4 different universities over the past 15 years and the one course that I still remember as having learned the most and the best understanding of was differential equations. I took this course almost 12 years ago while I was attending the University of New Haven. The professor was a scientist who also worked at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Sound lab. While I was on active duty I was a Sonar Technician Submarines and the majority of my job had to deal with the nature of sound and the characteristics of how sound traveled in water. I thought that I had a very good understanding of how sound worked and how the Navy determined what frequencies to use to detect contacts as very specific ranges. The class project for this course was for the class to determine what frequency we should use to detect a contact with active sonar at very specific range. I being a sonar technician immediately raised my hand because I knew the answer. The professor asked what I did and then said I am sure that you
