Shane Wicken 084379 HU260 Assignment 5.1 P a g e | 1 I tend to be most egocentrically submissive in the following types of situations: when I am interacting with a new project at work, at home with my wife, and when I am in meetings with my current customer. Knowing when to display dominate or submissive behavior is the key to being successful. There are times when you must be submissive to move your agenda to the fore front and there are times when you must dominate to do the same. While I am interacting with co-workers on a new project I tend to act this way out of a fear of appearing unknowledgeable or dominate. I feel that if I wait to figure out all of the personalities before I start asserting myself, then I will have a better understanding of who the dominate and knowledgeable people are. After I have figured out the team’s characteristics, I then have the confidence of knowing where I need to submissive and where I do not. I do this in an attempt to further my agenda as a leader and to place myself in situations that I know that I am knowledgeable. While I was in the Navy many people would call this brown-nosing, I look at it as, being able to advertise yourself at the right time to be able to make a difference when it counts and to be able to move ahead. It is not always what you know, but who you know. At home my philosophy has always been, happy wife, happy life. This may not be the
