Frequently Asked Questions FAQ 1: Do we work at our own pace? Answer: No. There is a set schedule of course activities. The deadlines for each task are set out in the Course Calendar (See link below) While internet-based courses do not typically have set meeting times, they do fall within the structure of semester-based course offerings. In order to complete the course in a timely manner, it is best that the work be paced over the entire time available. To that end, you will find that all assignments have a very specific due date and time. These times will be rigidly enforced. Assignments recieved after this time will generally be accepted, but with a rather severe late penalty. Of course, you can always "work ahead." Doing this can give you some of the freedom of "working at your own pace." I will generally open the web site to accept assignments well ahead (30+ days) of the semester starting point. FAQ 2. I needed info to complete the assignment. Will it be counted as late? Answer: Yes. It will be considered late. I will make every effort to respond to your inquiries according to the schedule that I have laid out. But, the fact that you have e-mailed, and are waiting on a response, is NOT a proper reason for waiting to turn in your assignment. FAQ 3: Does it matter what web browser I use? Answer: Yes! It does! Blackboard is quite sensitive to differences in the operating characteristics of the different web browsers, in particular, the more recent developments in web browsers. Internet Explorer 5.0 is ok. Internet Explorer 5.5 will work if you have Service Pack 2. Internet Explorer 6.0 Seems to be ok. Do not use Netscape Communicator 6.0 or above. Recommended browser is Netscape 4.77 or 4.78. You can generally tell the version of your browser by clicking on "About" under "Help" on the Browser menu. Click on Help (above) for Blackboard and seek more detailed browser guidance, including setup recommendations. FAQ 3.5: Are there any special instructions for AOL (or other special or hosted) users? Answer: Yes! Many of the web hosting ISP's do some special scripting that interfere with Blackboard. This includes AOL, Prodigy, MSN, Compuserve, Earthlink, and perhaps others.

You will have to minimize the AOL (or other) browser and use Netscape or Internet Explorer. See Help above for further information. FAQ 4: E-mail Schedule? Is there an e-mail schedule for the course? When can I expect a response to my question? I have very convenient access to e-mail facilities at my desk. I read and respond to normal e-mail several times
