Suranie 1Beth A. SuranieProfessor RiznerAmerican GovernmentMarch 1, 2020Our Unreliable BiasIn this day and age of the 24/7 news cycle it is so hard for people to discern what is “fakenews” and what is totally unbiased. The media is biased towards liberal views and is veryoutspoken on what they think about the current political climate. Take the news broadcastingchannel CNN, if you are to watch any of their broadcasts you will find that their views and whatthey say about the politics is skewed towards the liberal/democratic side of the politicalspectrum. Whereas if you are to watch Fox News their views are more skewed toward theconservative/republican side of the spectrum, every news station has a bias in one way or theother. This bias seems to be getting increasingly worse with each new political leader, whether itbe a harsh criticism of the democratic candidates by Fox News or the constant bad mouthing ofthe country’s current leader by CNN. The medias bias is not only infuriating but it is alsoaffecting our public opinion. We as Americans are so brainwashed by the media and their biastowards politics we now no longer have any interest in what the government could help us with.Ask the majority of teenagers if they enjoy speaking about politics or if they watch the news andthey will look at you and simply say no because of the constant conflict and unreliableinformation that the media spews. As the next election approachesmany teenagers and younger generations are getting increasingly more worried that our publicopinion is not going to be heard by the candidates. The media is constantly blasting politicalnews across our television screens, whether it be that a new candidate has entered the race or tojust bad mouth another world leader or our country’s own leader the news cycle doesn’t stop. With the news cycle many of those voting for the first time are looking for a news station tospeak about a presidential candidate that speaks directly to them and not to the older generationsthat most politicians focus on. Our public opinion doesn’t seem to be a major topic in the mediaand it should be, the public opinion of the American people is a way for the government to getthe people what they want. That public opinion however is coming under fire, with the medias
