Joey Marino 2-2-2010 DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER Dwight D. Eisenhower was the 34 th president of the United States and was elected into office twice. He was the first president to be elected from Texas but he grew up in Kansas with his mom, dad, and brothers. Eisenhower served in the military during World War I and in World War II as a Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces of Europe. He was president for 2 terms during the 1950’s and 60’s. He died in the late 1960’s, not before he left behind a legacy. Dwight D. Eisenhower was born on October 14, 1890 in Densen, Texas. He was the third of seven sons. His parents were David Jacob Eisenhower and Ida Elizabeth Stover, who had German and Swiss ancestors. After Eisenhower was born his family settled in Abilene, Kansas in 1892. When he was younger, he helped work so he could help his brother go to college. Eisenhower was very good at sports during his childhood. He was encouraged by his family to get an education to better himself while being an athlete. He was appointed to West Point Academy in 1911 because of his hard work in school and as an athlete. He was stationed in Fort Houston, Texas where he met his wife. He married Mamie Geneva Doud in 1916, before he was called to war during World War
